Chinese companies invested $46 billion in the US in 2016, over threefold of the $15 billion investment in 2015 and creating a new record high. Nearly half of the Chinese investment is pouring to 12 metropolitan areas in the US since 2000. Below are the cities which attracted most investment from China, total Chinese investment amount from 2000 to 2016, and jobs at Chinese-owned firms:

Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH ($2.0 billion; 740 jobs); 8. Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX ($2.1 billion; 1,720 jobs); 7. San Antonio-New Braunfels, TX ($2.2 billion; 590 jobs); 6. Louisville/Jefferson County, KY-IN ($3.4 billion; 6,020 jobs); 5. Durham-Chapel Hills, NC ($3.6 billion; 4,180 jobs); 4. Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI ($4.2 billion; 4,240 jobs); 3. San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA ($7.7 billion; 9,460 jobs); 2. Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA ($8.5 billion; 7,830 jobs); 1. New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA ($13.9 billion; 6,590 jobs).
