They built towering new cities in China. Now they're trying it in downtown L.A.

Metropolis, the largest real estate project of its kind in downtown Los Angeles, is a child's play for Greenland, the Chinese developer for the project, after seeing the dramatic urbanization recently happened in Beijing and Shanghai. Los Angeles is always popular for foreign real estate investors from Japan, Canada and South Korea, but nobody is building from the ground up like what the Chinese is doing now. Thousands of new units will be built by Chinese developers including Greenland, Oceanwide and Shenzhen Hazens. They expect about 40% buyers from China. However, some people concern that Chinese investors may leave the property empty. There're many differences for building a new construction project in the US and China. And both sides will need to learn from the experience. Los Angeles Times has more.
