Why Chinese companies are snapping up US commercial property investment

Chinese buyers have invested $10.6 billion into US property as at the end of May this year, a dramatic increase compared to the $4.37 billion investment over the whole of last year. Previously, Chinese real estate investors spread their interest widely among HK, Australia, UK and the US. However, over 62.5% of all $17 billion outbound real estate investment was poured into the US now, thanks to the expectation of USD appreciation, the recovering economy of the US as well as low financing cost. Offices attracted most investment from China among various asset classes. Hotels were the second popular asset class with 42% of all outbound investment from China, following offices closely and ahead of residential building.
