Chinese buyers are returning to overseas real estate markets

Based on a report by the Financial Times in April, Chinese buyers are slowly refocusing on buying real estate overseas.

The report gives an example of a Chinese buyer Mr. Mei show is looking at buying a house in either Los Angeles or Melbourne and has been searching online for some options.  The buyer thinks that prices may drop a bit further due to the coronavirus but

Stories like Mr Mei are becoming common – the number of inquiries of Chinese buyers looking to get advice for investments in overseas real estate is picking up again.  It is still early times however with most Chinese buyers looking online and contacting people, but very limited travel at this point in time.  As most countries which these Chinese buyers are interested in are still greatly affected by the coronavirus, Chinese buyers are not proceeding to the offer stage just yet.

Overseas real estate agents are slowly starting to pay notice to this returning interest from Chinese buyers. Most of them are still in lockdown mode and are focused on getting local buyers back doing transactions.  It is likely only a matter of time before they will be looking at selling homes to Chinese cash buyers once again.
