Chinese remain top buyer of US houses

Over the last 10 years, China has been a top buyer of US residential homes.  On average, Chinese buyers account for more than 10% share of all foreign buyers in America (with the exception of Covid-19 years).  Over the last 12 months, the share of foreign buyers has dropped due to the strong dollar making it much more expensive for foreign buyers to purchase a home in the US.

Other interesting characteristics of foreign buyers:

- 50% of all foreign buyers of US houses pay in cash

- Chinese spent USD 7.5 billion in purchasing US homes in the 12 months up to March 31 2024 (which makes them again the top buyer of US residential real estate in the US)

- Top US states where foreigners buy US houses are Florida, Texas and California
